Seabuscuit was foaled on May 23, 1933. He was a very high strung racer. As a colt he grew up in Paris, Kentucky on a farm called Claireborn Farm. The owner was Charles S. Howard. Howard owned many racers.
Seabiscuit's trainer was named Tom Smith. Smith was not a big talker he was a more quiet than others. But he did have a way of "speaking" to horses and horses loved him! Smith must have been proud when Seabiscuit won horse of the year in1938.
The jockey (rider of the horse) was named George Woolf. Woolf had many victories on other horses and led Seabiscuit to thirty-three of eighty-nine races. Seabiscuit and Woolf's colors were red and white. Woolf also was riding Seabiscuit when he defeated War Admiral, Sabiscuit's uncle and rival.
Lots of race horses have special companions. Seabiscuit had many, but there was one that stands out, Jo Jo the monkey. At one race peoplespotted the monkey that had been brought with them. Jo Jo and Seabiscuit were close friends and loved each other.
Seabiscuit's life came to an end on May 17, 1947 at the age of 14 because of a heart attack. His last race was in Hundred Grander.
